Ministry enhances VQRP funding to support victims of Human Trafficking
Nov 10, 2016

As announced by Juanita Dobson, Assistant Deputy Attorney General (ADAG) of the Victims and Vulnerable Persons Division (VVPD), funding is being provided to Victim Crisis Assistance Ontario (VCAO) Transfer Payment Recipients (TPRs) through Ontario’s anti-human trafficking strategy to increase their capacity to provide culturally relevant enhanced support to victims of human trafficking.

Funding allocations have been indicated for each site for the 2016-2017 and 2017-1208 fiscal year. While funding has been set aside under the strategy for VCAO TPRs in 2018-19 and 2019-20, funding allocations for those years will be re-assessed based on human trafficking volumes.

The Ministry has outlined the agency’s allocation for the Human Trafficking project and the service delivery, capacity building and reporting requirements tied to the additional funding.  In particular:

  1. Funding is to be used exclusively to fund activities related to victims of human trafficking;
  2. CDVS will be required to report separately on how this funding was allocated, spent, and on related service outputs and outcomes;
  3. Human Trafficking statistics including an additional HT QSR template must be completed and
  4. The agency will be required to work with Indigenous organizations in our community to provide seamless access to VQRP benefits for Indigenous human trafficking victims.

We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, Iroquois, Ojibway/Chippewa, Anishinabek, the Metis, and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit River. This Territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and the Haldimand Treaty. We are grateful to live and work on this land. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.
